DAY 1

Srinagar Airport - Sonmarg

Reach Srinagar Airport and drive to Sonmarg. Your journey continues towards Sonmarg. This scenic drive will take you through several key locations, including Sonmarg, known for its breathtaking beauty, where you can check into your hotel and rest for the night.

DAY 2

Sonmarg- Kargil

After breakfast at the Sonmarg Hotel, drive to Kargil via Zojila Pass, known for its breathtaking beauty, and the challenging Zojila Pass. Along the way, you'll have the opportunity to pay respects at the War Memorial and witness the stark landscapes of Drass. The drive offers unparalleled views of significant peaks such as Tiger Hill, Tololing, and Vijay Smarak - all of which hold a special place in the history of the Kargil War. Following the course of the Drass River, you will eventually arrive at Kargil, where you can check into your hotel and rest for the night.

DAY 3

Kargil - Padum

​Travel Time: 8–10 hours (including stops) Route: Kargil → Trespone → Sankoo → Panikhar → Parkachik → Rangdum → Pensi La → Padum Depart Kargil early to maximise daylight. Pack snacks and water. Drive along the Suru River toward Sankoo (40 km, ~1 hour). Stop at Trespone (22 km) to see the Imambarah on a hillock. In Sankoo, visit the Maitreya Buddha rock carving at Kartse Khar, a 7-meter Bamiyan-style statue​. Explore the village’s lush greenery and market. Continue to Panikhar (70 km from Kargil, ~1.5 hours from Sankoo). Enjoy views of Nun-Kun peaks and the Suru River. Stop at Purtikchey (56 km) for glacier views. Proceed to Parkachik (75 km from Kargil, ~15–20 minutes from Panikhar). View the Parkachik Glacier from the road. Drive to Rangdum (130 km from Kargil, ~2–3 hours from Panikhar). The road turns rougher with dirt tracks. Stop at Rangdum Monastery (18th-century, hilltop location) for panoramic views of the valley and Nun-Kun massif. Have lunch at a local dhaba (limited options; packed food recommended).Head to Pensi La Pass (30 km from Rangdum, ~1–1.5 hours, 4,400 m). Stop for photos of Drang Drung Glacier, one of India’s largest accessible glaciers. Descend into Zanskar Valley toward Padum (70 km from Pensi La, ~2.5–3 hours). The road is bumpy with dirt tracks. Pass small villages like Skygam. Arrive in Padum (3,669 m) by evening. Check into a hotel. Evening: Relax or stroll through Padum’s market for local handicrafts. Key Attractions Sankoo: Maitreya Buddha statue, green valley. Panikhar: Nun-Kun peaks, Suru River. Parkachik: Parkachik Glacier. Rangdum: Monastery, Himalayan views. Pensi La: Drang Drung Glacier, Sta Tso & Lang Tso Lakes (if accessible). ​

DAY 4

Padum Local Sightseeing

After breakfast at the Padum Hotel, you will embark on an exploration of Padum, the main city of Zanskar Valley. Today's itinerary includes visits to Zangla Monastery, Sheela Waterfall, and Padum Monastery. You will enjoy an overnight stay at the Padum Hotel, where dinner will be served.

DAY 5

Padum Jispa

Route: Padum → Purne → Kargyak → Shinkula Pass → Darcha → Jispa Morning (5:00 AM – Start from Padum) Depart Padum early due to the long, challenging drive. Drive to Purne (~50 km, ~2–2.5 hours) via Ichar and Raru villages. The road is a dirt track, scenic but rough. Optional: If time permits, trek to Phugtal Monastery (14 km one way from Purne, 5–6 hours round trip). Alternatively, view it from a distance. Stop Duration: 30 minutes (if skipping trek). Continue to Kargyak (~30 km from Purne, ~1.5 hours), the first village in Zanskar Valley on this route. Stop briefly for photos of the remote landscape. Ascend to Shinkula Pass (5,091 m, ~30 km from Kargyak, ~1.5–2 hours). The road is a jeep track with water crossings near Kurgiakh; drive cautiously. Stop at Gonbo Rangjon (sacred mountain, ~10 km before Shinkula Pass) for photography and a quick picnic. Descend from Shinkula Pass to Darcha (~40 km, ~2–3 hours). The road improves slightly but remains challenging. Pass Zanskar Sumdo (stream confluence). Stop in Darcha for lunch at a dhaba or packed food. Drive to Jispa (~7 km from Darcha, ~15–20 minutes) along the Bhaga River. Check into a guesthouse .

DAY 6

Jispa Manali Via Atal Tunnel

After breakfast in Jispa Cottage check out and drive to Manali via Atal Tunnal and drop at Manali Volo Stand or Hotel
